How Much Does Web Hosting Cost?

A 2026 pricing guide for beginners. Prices checked in September 2026.

How much does web hosting cost? The honest answer is: it depends. Web hosting cost can range from a few dollars a month for a basic plan to hundreds for a dedicated server.

Five things move the price most: the hosting type, the provider, the billing period, whether the price is promotional or renewal, and what is included (storage, websites, backups, domain, SSL).

The lowest advertised number is often not what you will pay over time. Many plans are discounted only for the first term, then renew at a higher rate.

This guide focuses on prices and how to compare them. If you are still learning the basics, start with What Is Web Hosting? A Simple Guide for Beginners. Readers in Bangladesh can jump to the Bangladesh section.

Prices checked in September 2026. Prices and promotions change often, so confirm the current checkout price before you buy. Each price is shown in the currency the provider advertises. I have not converted currencies.

Quick Answer: How Much Does Web Hosting Cost?

Here is the overall picture. These figures are a provider-published reference range from Hostinger’s own 2026 pricing overview (updated 9 September 2026). They are USD per month, mostly long-term promotional rates, and exclude VAT.

Hosting typePublished reference range (USD/month)Typical use
Shared hosting$2 to $10New blogs, small sites
WordPress hosting$3 to $25WordPress sites that want optimized tools
VPS hosting$10 to $100Growing sites, developers
Cloud hosting$10 to $200Variable or high traffic
Dedicated hosting$80 to $500Large sites, special needs

This is one provider’s overview, not a survey of the whole market, so treat it as a starting frame, not an industry average. Individual plans fall outside these ranges. For example, one entry VPS listed below is $6.49 a month on a long term.

I used official provider pages and one homepage screenshot, not third-party review sites. The examples come from two providers, Hostinger (international, USD) and ExonHost (Bangladesh, BDT). This is not a complete market survey.

Shared Hosting Cost

Shared hosting means many websites share one server’s resources. That is why shared hosting is among the lowest-cost mainstream hosting options, and why many beginners start here.

Plans usually include a set number of websites, some storage and free SSL. The catch is that the low advertised price is often tied to a long term.

*Subject to the provider’s fair usage policy. “Advertised monthly price” is the monthly equivalent of the promotional term, not what is charged each month.

  • Low monthly equivalents need long, upfront terms. The $2.99 Premium rate works out to $35.88 per year, but the customer pays $143.52 upfront for the full 48 months.
  • Backups differ. Hostinger lists weekly backups on Premium and daily on Unlimited. ExonHost lists daily backups with 7 restore points.
  • Limits are worth reading. ExonHost lists 250 GB, 500 GB and 1,000 GB of bandwidth across its three plans and says on its own page that it does not offer unlimited storage.
  • Refunds: both list a 30-day money-back guarantee on shared hosting.

Shared hosting suits personal blogs, portfolios and small business sites with modest traffic. It is not designed for heavy stores or sudden traffic spikes.

WordPress Hosting Cost

“WordPress hosting” does not always mean a different kind of server. Depending on the provider, it is either a plan tuned for WordPress (caching, one-click install, auto-updates) or shared hosting with a WordPress label.

Hostinger’s overview publishes a reference range of $3 to $25 a month for standard WordPress hosting, with managed options reaching about $200 a month at the top end. Its WordPress plans are priced the same as its web hosting plans. ExonHost does not list a separate WordPress plan on its homepage.

WordPress hosting is not automatically a step up from shared hosting. A new WordPress site with low traffic often runs fine on a standard shared plan. Extras like staging (a private copy for testing changes) are worth paying for when you actually need them.

VPS Hosting Cost

A VPS (virtual private server) gives you an isolated slice of a server with allocated resources and more control than shared hosting. VPS hosting cost is usually higher because of those extra resources and that control.

The important split is managed vs unmanaged. On a self-managed VPS you set up, secure and maintain the server yourself. A managed VPS includes server administration. They are different services, so do not compare their prices directly.

ExonHostBangladesh, BDTVirtual Servers (2G to 32G)From 1 CPU, 2 GB RAM, 25 GB NVMeFrom Tk2,291Not clearly stated on the provider’s public pricing pageManaged when cPanel is selected

Hostinger monthly prices are promotional equivalents paid upfront for the term (KVM 1 is on a 24-month term), and its renewal prices are listed for 2 years. ExonHost’s homepage does not state a billing term for its starting price.

ExonHost lists standard VPS servers in Los Angeles and BDIX VPS servers in Dhaka, and says VPS is non-refundable. Hostinger lists a 30-day money-back guarantee on its VPS plans.

Most beginners do not need a VPS. You would look at one when a shared plan runs out of resources and you (or someone you hire) can manage a server.

Cloud Hosting Cost

“Cloud hosting” means different things at different companies. Hostinger’s overview describes it as running across a network of connected virtual servers and publishes a reference range of $10 to $200 a month.

As one example, Hostinger’s Cloud Startup is advertised at $7.99 a month on a 48-month term ($383.52 paid upfront) with 4 CPU cores, 4 GB RAM and 100 GB NVMe. It renews at $25.99 a month. Its Professional and Enterprise plans are advertised at $15.99 and $29.99 a month on the same term.

Cloud is not automatically faster. Check the resources you actually get, not just the label.

Dedicated Hosting Cost

A dedicated server means renting an entire physical machine. Hostinger’s overview says dedicated hosting starts at about $80 a month and can reach around $500. ExonHost’s homepage advertises dedicated servers from Tk13,858, with no billing term stated.

Small sites and beginners almost never need this. If you do, ask providers for a quote and compare the specifications carefully.

What Makes Web Hosting More Expensive?

  • Storage: storage type and capacity can affect the price of a hosting plan.
  • CPU and RAM: more processing power for busier sites.
  • Number of websites: plans for one, three or unlimited sites are priced differently.
  • Traffic allowance: higher bandwidth or visitor limits.
  • Backups: daily backups often cost more than weekly ones or none.
  • Management: managed services cost more than self-managed ones.
  • Dedicated resources: isolated CPU and RAM cost more than shared.
  • Server location and support level: both can affect price on some plans.
  • Security features and control panel: cPanel is sometimes an add-on.
  • Free domain: often bundled for the first year only.
  • Billing period: the biggest lever. Longer terms usually mean a lower monthly equivalent.

For example, Hostinger’s own overview lists its Unlimited plan at $18.99 a month on rolling monthly billing and $3.99 a month on a 48-month term.

Introductory Price vs Renewal Price

Most hosting is sold with a low promotional price for the first term. When that term ends, the plan renews at a different rate. The hosting renewal cost is often much higher.

Here is what that looks like with Hostinger’s published numbers (48-month term, USD, excluding VAT):

PlanAdvertised monthly equivalentBilling termPaid upfrontPromo cost annualizedRenewal monthlyRenewal annualized*
Premium$2.9948 months$143.52$35.88/yr$10.99$131.88/yr
Unlimited$3.9948 months$191.52$47.88/yr$16.99$203.88/yr
Cloud Startup$7.9948 months$383.52$95.88/yr$25.99$311.88/yr

*Listed monthly renewal rate multiplied by 12. Hostinger’s page does not spell out the renewal billing term, so check it at checkout. ExonHost’s renewal prices are not clearly stated on its public pricing page.

The promotional rate works out to $35.88 per year for Premium, but the customer must pay $143.52 upfront for the full 48 months. That is a different thing from paying $35.88 in a first year.

Renewal can be several times higher than the promotional equivalent, so compare both the introductory price and the renewal price before buying.

Also remember: monthly billing usually has the highest per-month price. Multi-year promotional pricing is not a normal monthly price, so do not compare the two directly. Refund terms vary, so read each provider’s policy for exceptions.

How Much Should a Beginner Budget?

These are practical starting points for beginners, not provider recommendations. Choosing a provider is a separate step, covered in Best Web Hosting Services for Beginners.

Website typeWhat a beginner generally needsWhat to check
Personal blog or small websiteLow-cost shared hosting is usually enoughRenewal price, backups, free SSL
Small portfolioShared hosting, or a website builderStorage, free SSL
Small business websiteShared hosting with more resources may be sufficientBackups, support, storage
Affiliate or content siteShared or WordPress hosting to startSee list below
Growing website or small online storeConsider higher-resource shared, managed WordPress or cloud hosting, depending on traffic and featuresResources, backups, traffic limits

Actual prices vary by provider, billing term, promotional period, renewal rate, and included resources.

For an affiliate or content website, focus on:

  • WordPress compatibility: the plan should support it.
  • Storage: enough for images and growth.
  • Backups: how often, and how easy to restore.
  • SSL: free SSL is standard on the plans checked here.
  • Performance resources: CPU, RAM and limits.
  • Room to grow: the ability to upgrade later.
  • Renewal cost: what you will pay after the promotion ends.

Also budget for a domain. Hostinger’s overview puts domains at roughly $10 to $25 a year and lists .com renewing at $19.99 a year. Many plans include a free domain for the first year only.

Web Hosting Cost in Bangladesh

Readers in Bangladesh can see hosting prices in BDT from local providers, or in USD from international ones. Here is what I could verify.

ExonHost, a Bangladesh-focused provider, shows “starting at” prices in BDT on its homepage:

ServiceAdvertised starting priceBilling termRenewal price
Web HostingFrom Tk399Monthly and annual billing offered; exact term varies by planNot clearly stated on the provider’s public pricing page
Reseller HostingFrom Tk2,910Not stated on the homepage cardNot clearly stated on the provider’s public pricing page

ExonHost homepage showing starting prices in BDT for web hosting, reseller hosting, virtual servers and dedicated servers, September 2026
ExonHost pricing shown on its website in September 2026. Check the live page for current billing terms.
  • Billing terms matter. “Starting at” does not say which plan or term the price applies to. ExonHost advertises plans from Tk399, with monthly and annual billing options, and lists a saving on annual billing. I have not calculated an annual total, because the exact plan and billing relationship is not clearly stated.
  • Renewal prices were not clearly stated on the public pages I could read, so confirm them at checkout.
  • Tax: I could not verify whether VAT is included in ExonHost’s displayed prices. Check the final total.
  • International providers are also available to Bangladeshi buyers. The Hostinger pages I checked showed USD prices excluding VAT. I could not verify whether a Bangladesh-specific price or currency is shown at checkout.

Local vs International Hosting

There is no automatic winner between local and international hosting. Which one fits depends on your budget, payment options and where your visitors are.

What about international hosting?

Outside Bangladesh, hosting is usually priced in USD, EUR, GBP or another local currency. The price depends on the provider, region, billing term and current promotion. Hostinger is one international example, and it is not the only option.

How local and international pricing differ

  • Currency and payment: international providers often price in USD. ExonHost’s site has a BDT/USD switch and lists Rocket, bKash, local and international credit cards, and PayPal as payment options. Hostinger lists card payments on its site. I have not verified mobile-wallet support for Hostinger.
  • Support: both list 24/7 support. Language, response time and quality vary, so test it before committing.
  • Server location: ExonHost lists data centers including Bangladesh and Singapore, and BDIX VPS servers in Dhaka. Hostinger lists data centers across North America, Europe, Asia and South America. Location can affect speed, but a local company is not automatically faster. Where your visitors are matters more.
  • Renewal pricing: check both promotional and renewal price, wherever the company is based.
  • Refunds and migration: both list 30-day guarantees on shared hosting and free migration. Confirm what is included.

To compare the two directly, see Hostinger vs ExonHost.

What Is the Real Total Cost of Running a Website?

To see your annual hosting cost, add up everything for one year:

  1. Hosting price for the year (at the renewal price you will actually pay, not only the promotion)
  2. Domain registration and renewal
  3. Backups, if not included
  4. SSL, if not included (Hostinger’s overview says a single-domain certificate costs about $8 to $60 a year when not bundled)
  5. Extra email, if needed
  6. Add-ons
  7. Migration help, if the provider charges for it
  8. VAT or tax

Then compare the yearly total across providers, using renewal prices as well as promotional prices.

How to Compare Hosting Prices

Before buying, check:

  1. Promotional price
  2. Renewal price
  3. Billing period required for that price
  4. How much is paid upfront
  5. Number of websites allowed
  6. Storage (and whether it is SSD or NVMe)
  7. Traffic or bandwidth policy
  8. Backup policy (how often, how many restore points)
  9. SSL included or not
  10. Domain included (and for how long)
  11. Refund policy
  12. Support and WordPress compatibility

Common Web Hosting Pricing Mistakes

  • Looking only at the advertised monthly number
  • Ignoring the renewal price
  • Treating a monthly equivalent as the amount actually charged
  • Assuming “unlimited” means literally unlimited (unlimited features are usually subject to a fair usage policy)
  • Buying too many resources too early
  • Comparing monthly billing with multi-year promotional pricing
  • Ignoring VAT or taxes
  • Forgetting domain renewal

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does web hosting cost in 2026?

It depends on the type and billing term. Hostinger’s 2026 overview publishes a reference range of about $2 to $10 a month for shared hosting and $80 to $500 for dedicated servers. Advertised prices are often long-term promotions, so check the renewal price too.

Which type of web hosting has the lowest starting price?

Shared hosting usually has the lowest starting price, because many sites share one server. It is not the right fit if your site needs more resources.

How much does shared hosting cost?

Examples from provider pages: Hostinger advertises $2.99 to $3.99 a month on a 48-month term (paid upfront), and ExonHost advertises plans from Tk399, with monthly and annual billing options. Terms and renewal rates differ.

How much does WordPress hosting cost?

Hostinger’s overview publishes a reference range of about $3 to $25 a month for standard WordPress hosting. Some providers price it the same as shared hosting.

How much does VPS hosting cost?

Hostinger’s self-managed VPS is advertised from $6.49 to $25.99 a month on long promotional terms. ExonHost advertises virtual servers from Tk2,291. Managed and self-managed VPS are different services.

Why does hosting cost more when it renews?

Many providers discount the first term to attract new customers, then charge a regular rate at renewal. Always check the renewal price before you buy.

How much does web hosting cost in Bangladesh?

ExonHost advertises web hosting plans from Tk399, with monthly and annual billing options. The renewal price is not clearly stated. International providers are also available, usually priced in USD. See the Bangladesh section above for details.

Is cheap hosting enough for a beginner?

Often yes. A low-traffic blog or portfolio usually runs fine on a basic shared plan. Check backups, renewal price and limits, and upgrade when your site needs more.
